Hima cement donates 200 bags of cement for the construction of makerere rugby pitch
Kampala, 28th July 2009 – Hima Cement has donated 200 bags of cement to Makerere University for the construction of the rugby pitch, the home ground for the Hima Impis and the venue for this year’s Hima Makerere 10s. Hima Cement the main sponsors of the annual Hima Makerere 10s rugby tournament and The Hima Impis handed over the bags to the chairman of the team in a function held at the new Impis rugby Pitch. This donation was part of the 1000 bags Hima donated to the Uganda Rugby Union for the development of rugby in Uganda.
During the handover, Hima Cement’s Marketing and Communications Coordinator, Cerinah Zalwango said “We realize how important sports is not only to the society at large but also to our institutions of learning, this is why for the last 7 years we have enjoyed supporting this team. Our support is demonstrated by the fact that every year, Makerere University organizes a tournament that brings together teams and rugby lovers from the East African region and beyond. This of course translates into the growth of rugby in Uganda; something that has made our rugby cranes competitive in the whole of Africa. ”
Hima Cement last year donated 500 bags of cement for the development of this pitch, bringing the total up to 700 bags.
On receiving the cement the Chairman of Hima Impis Dan Obote thanked Hima Cement for their continued support and promised an even better tournament late this year. “There is no doubt The Hima Makerere 10s is the biggest international rugby tournament in Uganda. We are proud to note that this year’s Hima Impis 10’s tournament will be conducted at our very own grounds. This gives us more pride and the will to stage an even better tournament. “East Africa and especially Kenyan Rugby has the pride in the annual Safari Sevens that attracts teams from all over the world….we aim to eclipse the standard set by the Kenyan tournament” said Obote. “We are grateful to Hima Cement for the continued support they have accorded us in developing this pitch and in the game at large” He added
The Hima Makerere 10s are scheduled for 7th & 8th November and will this time take place at the Makerere rugby grounds. Hima Cement and the Hima Impis team have promised an even bigger tournament with a number of regional teams having expressed interest.
