Bamburi Super Series crunch matches this weekend moved to Kampala

 

 

 

 

March 31, 2009 Kampala, Uganda. The Bamburi Super series crunch matches between Buffaloes vs Victoria and Rwenzori vs Cheetehs scheduled for Saturday April 4th 2009 at the Nakuru Rugby grounds have been moved to Kampala Rugby Club because of the poor state of Nakuru Rugby Grounds.

 

The tournament organizers said the venue change was after consultations with the Kenya Rugby Football Union (KRFU), the Uganda Rugby Union (URU), Buffaloes RFC and the Title sponsors Bamburi Cement, who were in agreement that the matches be shifted to Kampala.

 

“We received information from Buffaloes in Nakuru that despite efforts to prepare their ground to be ready in time for this weekend’s fixture, the prolonged drought conditions in the area have rendered the pitch unfit for use, therefore Buffaloes requested that the fixture be moved to an alternative venue” said the Chairman of the Bamburi Super series Aggrey Chabeda.

 

Chairman of the Bamburi super series Uganda Franchise William Blick, Commended the Organizing committee for their efforts in placing sports men at the heart of the game. " The match changes will ensure not only that players are well served, but also that the public will be able to experience 15 aside Rugby tournament in each location.”

 

David Njoroge the Managing Director Hima cement said “It’s a pity that fans in Kenya will miss watching the region’s most exciting and inspiring rugby tournament but it is also about time that the fans in Kampala are treated to what the Bamburi Super Series is all about”. There is no doubt that the quality of play will be phenomenal”

 

Njoroge added that, “the change in venue is vital, to maximize the spectator experience of the rugby sport in the region and we want fans from both sides to be treated to a fantastic weekend of rugby” .

 

The Victoria against Buffaloes will be played at 3:00pm and later the Rwenzori against buffaloes will be played at 5:00pm and the winners of this match will advance to the ……. finals

 

The Cheetah Franchise is a composition of the Nondescript and Impala Rugby football clubs while the Buffaloes are a composition of Nakuru, Bungoma, Kisumu, Baraton University, Maseno, Egerton and Moi University Rugby Football clubs.

 

Bamburi Rugby Super Series is the largest annual fifteen a side rugby tournament held in East Africa. This event first kicked off in 2003 and since 2005, Bamburi Cement Limited has been the title sponsor for five years in a row, cementing their commitment to the development of the sports in this region.
