Hima cement announces title sponsorship of the sevens rugby tournament

 
 
 
 

 

 

 

Thursday August 12th 2010: Hima Cement has announced its involvement in the 2010 edition of the Sevens Rugby Tournament as title sponsor.  The annual tournament which is set to take place from 4th– 25th September 2010 shall attract a total of 16 teams, both local and foreign.

 

With a sponsorship package worth UGX 40m, the tournament will comprise of 4 foreign teams and 12 local teams and the games will be played starting on the 4th in Entebbe, 11th in Makerere University, 18th in Jinja, and the final on 25th September 2010 at Mandela National stadium.

 

While handing over the cheque at the Uganda Rugby Union offices in Kampala, the Commercial Manager, Dennis Kashero said that Hima is proud and excited to once again be a part of one of the biggest events on the rugby calendar in Uganda.

 

“We are pleased to yet again cement a partnership that has always existed between the Uganda Rugby Union and Hima Cement, a partnership that has lasted for almost a decade and a half”, Kashero said.

 

 

“ The sevens Rugby tournament in Uganda is not only an exciting one for the fans, but also allows for display of talent and speed in the game of rugby; something that Hima cement cannot ignore because those are values that reflect what we intend to see all Ugandans achieve.”

 

Kashero added that Hima decided to sponsor the 2010 edition of the sevens rugby because the tournament has over the years proven to grow in stature and yet attracts not only the locals, but also international attention.

 

“Our sponsorship of the event shows our commitment to further develop rugby in the country at all levels. We want to help create a local event that will not only involve everyone but one that we hope will turn into an even bigger and international rugby event”, added Kashero.

 

The event held over a four week period with 16 teams competing will be the first ever Rugby event held at Mandela national stadium due to the spaciousness, and secure environment in which the stadium is located.

 

 

While receiving the sponsorship the President, Uganda Rugby Union, William Blick said, “Hima Cement has been an exemplary sponsor of Rugby in Uganda and we are really looking forward to working with the teams to ensure that both parties attain the expected value from the partnership.

 

Blick added that Hima cement has had a solid partnership with the union for now seventeen years and expressed his delight to have secured the company’s support going forward.
