As Uganda prepares to undertake one of the biggest infrastructure projects - the Standard Gauge Railway - Hima Cement has delivered Powercrete, the first 52.5  Grade cement in Uganda.

Powercrete

Powercrete CEM I 52.5 OPC is the ultra high strength cement that offers a compressive strength of 52.5 MPa (N/mm2) minimum. The only 52.5 class cement in Uganda, Powercrete is formulated to provide concrete mixes that require higher ultimate strength and resilience.

Powercrete is a premium technical cement that combines excellent strength performance at all ages with versatility and enhanced durability benefits, as well as:

• Higher strength benefit with less cement dosage (lower concrete cost)

• Can be extended further to give extra value and customized mixes

• Lower alkali content (suitable for use in aggregate susceptible to alkali-silica reaction)

• Aesthetically bright finishes

• Fast setting applications

Powercrete was designed specifically for the Standard Guage Railway.  It is also ideal  for other high  strength  applications  such  as skyscraper foundations, precast slabs and beams, bridges, overpasses, windmill foundations, heavy-duty industrial floors, pre-stressed or post-tensioned concrete and more.

Cement for Road Stabilization

 


Road construction and soil remediation require specific cements with longer setting and hardening time properties. Hima Cement has specially developed RoadCem, a cement binder that brings strength and soil compatibility to roads and soil applications. This requires less road layer thickness, thus generating savings in raw materials and reducing the overall cost of projects.

The need

To reduce plasticity index of all purpose soils including road sub bases, railway bases, airport and yards in the most effective manner by using soil stabilization and backfill to overcome deficiencies in available stabilization material and enhance the material properties of pavement to meet design requirements.

To provide for sufficient open time to allow blending and compaction. Stabilization products are designed to control the plasticity and enhance the strength of various road construction materials. The principle products used are Portland cement, fly ash, slag, lime or mixtures of these to address the specific site conditions and conform to the applicable standards.

The Solution


 

Roadcem HRB 32.5E is a specialized cementitious binder designed to meet the needs of wide range of road stabilization applications.

Depending on the specific site conditions, the product is formulated from Portland cement clinker and naturally occurring pozzolana.

Roadcem is suitable for:

• Stabilization of road base, sub-base and dub-grade material and ash dumps

• Soils with either low or moderate plasticity – it is especially suited to granular type materials

with a lower PI

• In situ stabilization

• Minor general concrete work

Roadcem achieves strength at 7 days > 20,0 MPa and at 28 days > 32,5 MPa, as required for this class of general purpose cement in accordance with the regulated standards
