Bamburi Cement Limited

Bamburi Cement Ltd. operates in East Africa mainly Kenya & Uganda and the company is managed as one enterprise. It was founded in 1951 by Felix Mandl - a director of Cementia Holding A.G. Zurich. Cementia later went into partnership with Blue Circle PLC (UK). Lafarge bought Blue Circle in 2001 to become the largest building materials company in the world and Bamburi Cement Limited principle shareholder. In April 1999, Bamburi acquired a significant stake in Hima Cement Ltd. Hima has significantly improved Bamburi's market presence in Uganda, and will provide leverage into the Great Lakes region in the future.

Bamburi Special Products Limited

Bamburi Special Products Ltd. in Nairobi, a wholly owned subsidiary, manufactures paving blocks under the brand name "BamburiBlox". The paver-block business is opening up significantly as people become aware of the affordability and longevity of the product, and Bamburi Special Products Ltd. has sold significant volumes to road rehabilitation projects. Bamburi Special Products Ltd. branched out into garden landscaping products, such as cobbles and slate. Development of new products is ongoing, and Bamburi Special Products Ltd. will continue to provide Bamburi Cement Ltd. with a platform for potential further expansion into cement related added value businesses. esses.

Lafarge Eco Systems

Lafarge Ecosystems was originally established as a department of Bamburi Cement (called Baobab Farm Ltd) and was incorporated as a company on it's own in 1977. The company's activities include rehabilitating Bamburi's used quarries; managing Haller Park (the rehabilitated South Quarry,) the Bamburi Forest Trails (rehabilitated North Quarry), and Whistling Pine Restaurant (acquired in 1996); and conducting a number of farming activities, including forestry and aquaculture, in the rehabilitated quarries. Quarry rehabilitation projects by Lafarge Ecosystems started in 1971 and are continuous, and include the Central Quarry, where the Bamburi Crater Lake is being developed for environmentally friendly water sports, and the Kikambala Quarry, where tree planting has just begun.
